Except in cases where the male bird’s plumage is brightly colored (for mating purposes), it’s often difficult to tell a male bird different from a female bird. Take for example, the seagulls pictured below. They look almost the same; but study them closely … see if you can spot which of the two is female. Even with limited bird-watching skills, you should be able to tell.
